Automated Path Generation for Robots

July 7, 2023
A collaboration between Mitsubishi Electric and Realtime Robotics enables the development of workcells with a higher density of robots for faster throughput.

At Automate 2023, Mitsubishi Electric showcased its collaboration with Realtime Robotics to allow multiple robots to work in close proximity for a variety of applications. Patrick Varley with Mitsubishi Electric explained that the automated path generation and collision avoidance provided by this system is important in today's manufacturing environments because it allows users to have smaller work cells with a higher density of robots per square foot for faster throughput.

Without the automated path planning and collision avoidance capabilities of the software, integrators or end users would have to program each robot independently and coordinate the robots’ moves, which only gets more complicated if you need to change robot configurations in the cell.

“If I would take a robot out or add a fourth robot [the system will] automatically adjust and pick the best path versus having to program it manually,” said Varley.

For more information on this collaboration between Mitsubishi Electric and Realtime Robotics, see this article and video about automated robot path planning for complex applications.

In the video below, Patrick Varley with Mitsubishi Electric explains the how the work between Mitsubishi Electric and Realtime Robotics automates collision-free movement of robots in tight spaces.
