Panasonic Chooses Siemens Xcelerator as a Service

Aug. 16, 2024
Siemens Xcelerator Teamcenter X SaaS is a key aspect of the digital transformation of Panasonic’s home appliance development and manufacturing.
Siemens Digital Industries Software announced that Panasonic has begun adoption of its Teamcenter X cloud-based product lifecycle management (PLM) software-as-a-service (SaaS). The software will be used in the development of Panasonic’s home appliances as well as it heating, ventilation and air conditioning products as part of the company’s group-wide digital transformation strategy. The software will allow Panasonic’s global foundation for digital twins and digital threads to be expanded across its product development and design domains, with the aim of improving productivity throughout Panasonic's manufacturing operations.

According to Siemens, Panasonic’s large-scale implementation of Siemens Xcelerator as a Service will integrate data management processes across product design and development to reduce lead times and support continuous market availability of the company’s products. By migrating legacy IT assets and traditional on-premises data management to the cloud, Panasonic aims to reduce IT infrastructure, maintenance labor-hours and total cost of ownership. Using the SaaS version of Siemens software also enables Panasonic to rapidly access updated versions of Siemens latest PLM functionality, IT infrastructure capabilities and help secure its systems around the globe.

The Mendix low-code platform from Siemens has also been implemented to address Panasonic's appliance development requirements. (Learn why low-code software is not just an IT tool.)

Siemens noted that Panasonic quickly migrated to Teamcenter X by eliminating the customizations that had previously been built on-premises while also rebuilding business processes based on standard functions.

“Panasonic has positioned digital transformation as a key strategy for strengthening its management foundation and is working on it under the company-wide name of Panasonic Transformation,” said Hideyuki Miyazaki, Panasonic CIO. “As one of our key measures, we are collaborating with Siemens to promote the shift to cloud computing and adopting digital threads for product design and development data management.”
