McCrometer Acquires Automata, Inc., Forms New Business Unit

Dec. 2, 2011
McCrometer (www.mccrometer.com) has purchased substantially all of the assets of Automata Inc., a Nevada City, Calif. maker of satellite and radio telemetry, software and sensors for agricultural, industrial and rural water applications.

Combined with the earlier acquisition of Adcon Telemetry, McCrometer (www.mccrometer.com) is using the assets to establish a new business unit, McCrometer Connect.  This new business unit will focus on developing and selling complete wireless solutions for agriculture and rural water management applications.

“The combination of Automata and Adcon gives McCrometer a one-two punch in this space.,” said Melissa Aquino, general manager of the McCrometer Connect business unit. While both companies have experience across a wide variety of products, it is the combination of Automata and Adcon’s communication options and sensor portfolio that separates us from the competition. Given our combined platform, we are able to deliver tangible value, such as improved yield and water savings, to irrigation districts and large farms.”

McCrometer President Kerry McCall says the company will build on its strong flow meter installed base and heritage in the agricultural, municipal and industrial markets.  “With over 55 years of experience in flow meter design and manufacturing, the Automata and Adcon businesses provide McCrometer with established product platforms in a growing product category,” McCall says.

McCrometer’s facilities now include headquarters in Hemet, Calif., a manufacturing and service center in Aurora, NE, one of the world’s largest volumetric calibration laboratories in Porterville, Calif. and two new telemetry systems and sensors facilities in Davis and Nevada City, Calif.
