Managing Complex Product Developments

Jama Software and ANSYS integrate a predictive product development hub and model-based software to help engineers with traceability and impact analyses.

As products get smarter, product development gets harder. For example, automobiles are morphing into complex systems of embedded software, resulting in a bit of connected chaos when it comes to analyzing and managing the safety and reliability of each car. Just a little bit of imperfect code can cause many product failures.

In order to help design engineers with safety, reliability and failure mode analyses, Jama Software and ANSYS recently announced a partnership in order to deliver enhanced insights through traceable links that can increase safety while accelerating product time to market.

Jama Software offers a product development platform designed to help manufacturers who are building complex products and integrated systems to establish a predictive product development process. ANSYS, a provider of engineering simulation software, gives engineers the ability to simulate every structural aspect of a product. Together, the two technology suppliers will integrate specific products to aid engineers.

Specifically, ANSYS Medini Analyze, a tool used to implement key safety analysis methods, and the ANSYS SCADE Suite, a model-based development environment for critical embedded software, will be integrated with Jama Connect, a product development hub, to enable greater impact analyses for engineering teams and business leaders alike. Ultimately, these integrations will deliver enhanced insights through the activation of traceable links from safety requirements to their specific properties, such as the safety integrity level (SIL/ASIL) within the development process, the companies said.

“Too often engineers are asked to do more with less. This partnership allows teams to get high-quality products to market faster without sacrificing safety,” said Scott Rogers, Jama Software’s vice president of business development. “It also empowers businesses with a more holistic and complete view of the product development process and extended traceability through the inclusion of more engineers across more phases of the design cycle.”

The collaboration between ANSYS and Jama Software is designed to benefit organizations in regulated industries, including aerospace, automotive and defense. Standards and regulations that are supported with the integrations through this partnership include ISO 26262, DO-178 and DO-254.

“Providing our customers a full view of engineering tasks within the context of broader business initiatives not only helps remove the guesswork from their job, but also enables them to spend less time on manual processes and more time innovating and building groundbreaking products,” said Eric Bantegnie, vice president and general manager of ANSYS' Systems business unit.
