Summit Media Group Becomes PMMI Media Group

Feb. 5, 2015
Following its acquisition in November 2014, Summit Media Group—the parent company of Automation World—has been renamed PMMI Media Group.

Media company acquisitions were steady throughout 2013 and 2014; however, most of these acquisitions were made by media companies buying other media companies. Standing apart from the usual media industry M&A activity was the acquisition of Summit Media Group by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies last November.

As part of the acquisition process, Summit Media Group is being re-launched as PMMI Media Group (PMG). The creation of PMG includes the integration of the staff of the former Summit Media Group and their decades of knowledge and experience into PMMI. PMG’s editorial department will continue to operate independently out of its current Chicago, Illinois home.

In addition to its world-class publications — Packaging World, Automation World, Healthcare Packaging, Contract Packaging and the newly launched Packaging + Processing OEM—PMG offers playbooks and interactive media to engage audiences and foster communication throughout the industry.

As the principal media operation of PMMI, PMG will serve as a year-round home for the processing and packaging community, with PMG’s media technologies functioning as an interactive knowledge exchange for the processing and packaging supply chain, providing platforms for subject-matter experts to collaborate, solve problems and share solutions in real-time.

Automation World will continue to focus on its coverage of automation technologies and trends across the discrete and process industries.

“PMMI Media Group strengthens PMMI by supporting our PACK EXPO tradeshows, adding a critical asset to our portfolio of member resources and providing new channels through which we can communicate and serve as the thought leader in the industry,” says PMMI President and CEO Charles D. Yuska. “PMG is a 365-day-a-year community that expands tradeshow engagement and connects solution providers and end-users helping them to improve their business.”

“We’re very excited to incorporate the global PMMI brand within the Media Group name,” says Joseph Angel, president of PMMI Media Group. “We have made tremendous progress since the November 1st acquisition and we have only scratched the surface in aligning the PMG products and services to offer year-round engagement for the packaging community. Our portfolio of exclusive tools – world-class events, business intelligence, education and workforce development resources – will help companies in the packaging and processing supply chain discover best practices and grow their business.”

Established as a result of an association-wide desire for a multimedia resource to better curate and disseminate PMMI’s assets, and a platform that connects the supply chain throughout the year, PMG immediately has the largest digital footprint in the industry.

“This new multimedia platform is not only the best in the business from a technology standpoint, but its collection and variety of resources will have the eyes and ears of packaging and processing throughout the year,” says PMMI Chairman Bill Crist, CEO, Kliklok-Woodman. “The robust platform PMG brings to the table will enhance our ability to serve as the convening authority of the processing and packaging industry.”
