HiveMQ Edge is a software gateway designed to simplify industrial IoT deployments via diverse endpoint integration and unified namespace architecture creation.
HiveMQ, a supplier of enterprise MQTT technologies, has released HiveMQ Edge—an open-source software gateway with an edge-optimized MQTT broker. According to HiveMQ, this software was developed to help manufacturing organizations simplify and modernize their industrial IoT infrastructure by converting proprietary industrial network protocols like Modbus and OPC-UA into the MQTT format at the edge for integration with enterprise and cloud systems.
The key to HiveMQ Edge is its support for the unified namespace architecture, which allows data to be mapped from various sources into a structured and centralized data hub to enable real-time data analysis. This is a critical issue for manufacturers when it comes to connecting industrial data from OT (operations technology) to IT systems, including the integration of diverse network endpoints with legacy connectivity interfaces and point-to-point data integration patterns that can limit scalability.
“We’re making it faster and easier to connect the edge and reap the full benefits of IIoT with an open gateway that converts proprietary and legacy protocols to MQTT,” says Dominik Obermaier, co-founder and chief technology officer at HiveMQ. “We added a built-in broker for efficient messaging so users can deploy rapidly, drive costs down and scale up easily.”
In addition to enabling integration for unified namespace creation, HiveMQ Edge provides:
Plug-and-play integrations for protocols like Sparkplug and OPC UA.
An edge-optimized MQTT broker to drive costs down.
Intuitive user interface and API (application programming interface)-based operability.
Open source software with a software development kit for maximum extensibility.
