Downeast Cider House Uses Plex to Improve Optimization

Dec. 14, 2023
The Plex system brings automation to accounting processes, offering immediate invoicing upon shipment and improving overall financial workflows.

Boston’s Downeast Cider House, known for its extensive lineup of 36 hard cider blends, faced operational challenges in managing its complex production and supply chain, comprising 76 different stock-keeping units (SKUs) and around 300 to 400 raw materials.

The cidery's head of production and supply chain, Grainger Flint, highlighted the difficulty of tracking inventory and ingredient procurement using Google Sheets. The cidery adopted the Plex system, which has significantly streamlined their processes.

The Plex system enables advanced shipping notifications, automated accounting processes and a human-machine interface for real-time monitoring of production. The multi-out dynamic production feature allows simultaneous processing of multiple jobs, enhancing efficiency on the canning line.
