Field Device Solutions Driven by PROFINET I-O

Dec. 9, 2009
Softing’s portable protocol stacks for PROFINET I-O, EtherNet/IP and Modbus/TCP enrich any field device with an existing Ethernet interface with Real-Time (RT) Ethernet capabilities. A flexible porting layer provides a rapid integration of the company’s solutions into any target device. The company’s protocol stacks provide a well-documented porting layer developed in ANSI-C to ensure compatibility with any target hardware. Other features include high-performance capabilities of the porting layer in many operating systems, such as VxWorks, Linux, Windows, eCons, mC/OSII and netOS. The company offers two additional PROFINET integration models for PROFINET field devices that include the Altera Cyclone III FPGA: RT Ethernet protocol software and Real-Time Ethernet communication module. For use with low-volume products, the communication module includes a 50-Pin connector for memory access, 2 RJ45 Ethernet interfaces, 10-Pin connector for serial interface and 4 MB of Flash. The Ethernet protocol software is suited for high volume products and provides support for the integrated switch-core of the FPGA, eliminating the need for external switching components.
