Bluetooth Serial Port Adapters

Aug. 30, 2011
Today, connectBlue added the Rugged Bluetooth Serial Port Adapter RBS433 to the widely acclaimed Serial Port Adapter product range.

The robust and water proof RBS433 provides a plug-and-play solution to replace conventional serial cables. The ready-to-use Bluetooth interface allows any device with an RS232/422/485 port to communicate wirelessly up to 1000 meters without the need for extra software.

The new Rugged Bluetooth Serial Port Adapter RBS433 replaces the Rugged Bluetooth Serial Port Adapter RSPA333s. In addition to the features found in the former device, the RBS433 also offers greater throughput and longer range (1000 meters). Like all connectBlue products, the new Bluetooth Serial Port Adapter is compatible throughout connectBlue product generations and technologies, providing a seamless upgrade possibility without the need for product redesign, upgrade investments or qualification approvals.

The Serial Port Adapter is radio type approved for FCC, IC and R&TTE, compliant with EMC, Safety and Medical standards, and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR qualified (3.0 prepared via firmware upgrade). These certificates allow customers to save on development resources and easily integrate wireless communication without having to go through lengthy and costly approval and qualification processes.

"Our broad product range ensures that customers only pay for the features they need. If at any stage a customer’s requirements change, the product’s compatibility with other connectBlue products will allow the customer to easily change over to another Serial Port Adapter, for example Wireless LAN, or in more complex cases, we can develop a tailored solution," says Rolf Nilsson, CEO of connectBlue.

Besides the above mentioned features, the new Rugged Bluetooth Serial Port Adapter also incorporates sophisticated technical features for enhanced performance including Wireless Multidrop™ that allows up to seven devices to communicate simultaneously, Extended Data Mode™ for individual control of the channel data, and easy configuration by AT commands and configuration over Bluetooth technology.

The embedded Bluetooth stack supports Generic Access Profile (GAP), Serial Port Profile (SPP), Dial-up networking Profile (DUN GW, DUN DT), and Personal Area Networking Profile (PAN) roles PANU & NAP. The Bluetooth Serial Port Adapter is ideal for use in applications where a smart phone or a laptop would wirelessly communicate with a device such as Session Border Controllers (SBC), Remote Terminal Units (RTU), sensors, robots, etc.
