Continuous Improvement at AutomationWorld.com

Jan. 30, 2013
Continuous improvement is a topic covered quite a bit in the pages of Automation World, but it also applies to us.

Last year, we delivered an updated AutomationWorld.com Web site that provided larger headlines, images and, in general, a better user experience for finding articles and information. A year later, we are happy to introduce two major updates: Updated navigation and Blog Beats.

The web site changes offer readers four new blogs “beats” that touch on Continuous Process, Discrete Manufacturing, Processing and Packaging, and NextGen Infrastructure. The four new blogs can be accessed from any page on the site with our new expandable blog tabs, which run down the left side of the Web page (see image 1). When you hover with your mouse’s cursor, the blog tabs expand and show the latest blog post from each automat. When expanded, a user can click on the blog post headline or on the editor’s illustration. Click on the editor’s illustration and it takes you to the landing page, where you can see numerous posts for that given blog beat.

AW has also consolidated our main navigation bar to provide easier access to information that suits your job and needs (see image 2, "Upgraded Navigation"). Our hope with the new navigation is to present a more intuitive search for content, by offering choices such as process automation, products, engineering and operations, to name a few.

Check out the updated site and evaluate our improvements.
