Emerson Acquisition Broadens Machinery Monitoring Expertise

April 9, 2009
The deal to acquire Germany-based epro expands Emerson’s portfolio in online machinery prediction and protection.

Executives at Emerson Process Management (www.emersonprocess.com), Austin, Texas, told Automation World during last September's Exchange Users Conference that they would continue to look for strategic acquisitions to strengthen the company’s reach and expertise, and they have followed up on that.

Emerson Electric Co. has acquired epro GmbH (www.epro.de), of Gronau, Germany, to enhance the expertise and resources of Emerson Process Management, a global supplier of automation and asset management solutions. The deal expands Emerson’s online machinery monitoring capability with a fullprotection offering that is compliant with the American Petroleum Institutes API-670 standard. It is also expected to speed availability of next generation solutions. Terms of the deal were not announced.

Emerson engineers, manufactures, and delivers machinery monitoring solutions for critical machinery such as turbines and compressors. Its offerings include services for project management, systems engineering, start-up and commissioning, training, and ongoing support.

“This acquisition extends Emerson’s leadership in machinery monitoring and expands our Smart Machinery Health Management offerings. All of this is tightly integrated in the PlantWeb digital plant architecture,” said Craig Llewellyn, president Asset Optimization division of Emerson Process Management. “It combines world-class API-compliant machinery protection solutions with Emerson’s considerable expertise in predictive diagnostics.”
