Red Lion Controls, the global experts in communication, monitoring and control for industrial automation, today announced that the company has earned key certifications in the military and industrial markets for its Sixnet line of industrial Ethernet switches. These certifications enable even more customers to take advantage of Red Lion’s industrial-grade networking products.

Two Sixnet series military-grade Ethernet switches – the ET-8MG-MIL-1 and the ET-8MS-MIL-1 – have been certified to withstand altitude environments up to 50,000 feet in accordance with the requirements of military specification MIL-STD-810F. The testing was completed by Retlif Testing Laboratories in Ronkonkoma, New York.

“Whenever possible, defense and aerospace contractors prefer pre-validated rugged electronics equipment to help reduce program risks,” said Scott Killian, director of military sales at Red Lion Controls. “This certification, which was verified by a third-party testing organization, further validates Red Lion’s Sixnet military switches, which have been used in both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, for industrial airworthiness and reliability.”

In addition, Red Lion’s Sixnet EL326-A0-1 and EL326-AA-1 Layer 3 industrial Ethernet switches – part of the ExtremeLine (EL) family – have received UL and C-UL (UL 508, ISA12.12.01 Class I-Div 2) certification from Underwriters Laboratories (UL). The UL certification is internationally respected and recognized as an acknowledgement of the safety and compliance of a product, which must meet the strict guidelines of the highly acclaimed testing organization.
The EL326 Layer 3 switches offer 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports, optional dedicated stacking ports and 10-Gigabit uplinks. These switches combine advanced enterprise-class features with rugged, high-performance switching for industrial environments such as power substations, traffic control, railway and other mission-critical networks.

“Industrial and military organizations need to know – before deployment – that communications equipment will function properly under extreme conditions,” said Diane Davis, product manager of connectivity solutions at Red Lion Controls. “With testing and verification from respected third-party labs, customers and partners can remain confident that our industrial Ethernet switches will reliably perform right out of the box in rugged environments.”
