Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) today announced the addition of IEC 61850 manufacturing message specification (MMS) File Services and Edition 2 compliance to its RTAC devices. These new enhancements bring even more versatility to SEL RTACs, which already support IEC 61850 MMS Client, MMS Server and Generic Object-Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE) communications.
“IEC 61850 is becoming a popular standard in large utilities,” said SEL Senior Engineering Manager Mark Weber. “The SEL RTAC family now has the complete suite of IEC 61850 protocols to help support systems that are investing in this technology.”
With SEL RTACs, utilities can combine IEC 61850 technology and Ethernet networking to perform interoperable, high-speed automation and control for modern substations. The addition of IEC 61850 MMS File Services makes gathering COMTRADE disturbance records from any intelligent electronic device (IED) simple. Utilities can send any generated or collected files on the RTAC file system through IEC 61850 MMS File Services on an MMS server, which offers increased speed and security of data transfers for critical system operations.
The IEC 61850 options are available for $200 with the SEL RTAC family, including the SEL-3555, SEL-3530, SEL-3505 and SEL-2241. For more information on current and new IEC 61850 features, benefits and applications for the SEL RTAC family, visit https://selinc.com/p240.
