Nook Industries has introduced an engineering calculator for modular actuators—one of the only of its kind in existence.
The calculator works by simply choosing the desired product, entering its load definitions and allowing the tool to calculate the bearing stress and load to determine the bearing life of the product. The results can be viewed on an easy-to-read, printable format.
“Since they are typically buried within the actuator, it’s often impossible to know exactly where the bearings are located, so many engineers have to guess when figuring out the size of the load,” said Ronald Giovannone, project manager at Nook Industries. “This calculator was designed to eliminate guessing and give you accurate results in a straightforward, easy way. If a company wants a product to last five years, simply plugging in a few definitions will give it the load necessary to achieve that life expectancy.”
Nook’s line of modular actuators serve a variety of applications in the medical and manufacturing industries, from microscopes and CT scanners, to printers and lift tables.
