The Volkswagen MIB II infotainment platform incorporates a range of TI's "Jacinto" processors, as well as power management integrated circuits (ICs), and FPD-Link III serializers and deserializers. Together, the TI devices provide improved processing performance, platform scalability and a responsive user interface.
The MIB II platform leverages TI's "Jacinto" family of infotainment processors, from "Jacinto 5 Eco" to "Jacinto 6," to deliver unprecedented scale of performance and functionality across the line-up. The processors enable faster processing speeds resulting in more responsive user interactivity and improved graphics capabilities that enable high-resolution capacitive touch displays. Additionally, the scalability of the "Jacinto" family is capable of supporting four different head-unit configurations depending on the desired trim level of VW vehicles.
Finally, the "Jacinto" devices powering the MIB II platform, of which both TechniSat and Delphi have developed variants, provide hardware acceleration that enables the latest in connectivity options with VW's Car-Net suite including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto™ and MirrorLink.
"Throughout TI and VW's collaboration on the MIB II platform, it was evident that a broad range of processing performance would be necessary to enhance the user experience," said Curt Moore, Automotive Processors general manager, TI. "TI's "Jacinto" infotainment processors enabled the platform to offer a high-level of mobile connectivity options to improve the driver's overall experience with higher resolution and a more responsive user interface."
