UPS Communicates Battery Health via Industrial Networks

Jan. 29, 2019
Phoenix Contact’s Quint DC uninterruptible power supply provides real-time information about a battery’s health over standard industrial networking protocols, such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, EtherCAT and USB.

With this data, the user knows the state of the UPS system before there is a problem, which makes possible a proactive approach to battery management and lowers the total cost of ownership. The UPS provides critical system backup to supply loads in the event of mains failures and indicates the operating and battery states. The battery management system (BMS) with IQ technology and a powerful battery charger ensure power reliability within a control system. Device variants are each available with Industrial Ethernet network interfaces or simply as status contacts only. Networking enables the system to be monitored, configured or shut down safely from any location. The UPS can be monitored for predictive maintenance anywhere there is an Industrial Ethernet network connection. The network connection is integrated into the UPS, eliminating the need for additional add-on peripherals.
