PROFINET can thus be deployed for process automation and manufacturing purposes.
Process automation has rigorous constraints for consistency and accessibility. About four main characteristics were added to the novel profile including configuration in run; Integration of existing fieldbuses; time harmonization; time stamping; and scalable redundancy. The fabricators apply these functional aspects into PROFINET solutions for process automation purposes.

Apart from the novel process automation-based specifications, this innovative model of the PROFINET also includes high performance specifications.
