Stepper Motors Replace Servos

June 1, 2006
Billed as a cost-effective alternative to servo motors in the small- and medium-capacity range, ASIxxx stepper motors offer nominal current ratings from 1A to 5A, and torques ranging from 0.38Nm to 5Nm.

The ASIxxx series can be used as actuators or auxiliary axes for numerous machine designs and applications. In conjunction with the vendor’s KL2531 and KL2541 stepper motor I/O Bus Terminals and TwinCat automation software, axes can be easily and cost-effectively integrated into any stepper application, says the vendor, without the need for remote amplifiers. This approach requires fewer components, reducing installation costs.
