Profibus master capabilities have been added to 758 Series programmable controllers. “In addition to being a Profibus master, the on-board Ethernet ports allow for connectivity to the enterprise,” says Mark DeCramer, advanced electronics product manager at the vendor.
“By offering this combination, we are able to fulfill both device level control and enterprise level communication in one package.” The 758 Series offers a 266MHz multi-tasking, battery backed CPU, with a built-in Web server and 32MB RAM/32MB flash memory. The 758 Series is designed to combine the ruggedness and reliability of a PLC with the added functionality of PC-based features. The I/O-PRO CAA programming tool is an IEC 61131-3 programming environment that offers built-in visualization, OPC server and fieldbus configuration. List prices for the 758 Series with Profibus master and the for the programming tool are $1,700 and $750 respectively.
