Welding Sensors

May 1, 2004
The vendor’s family of Factor 1 inductive proximity sensors, designed primarily for welding applications, has been expanded to include five new 12mm and two new 18mm tubular designs.

Factor 1 sensors incorporate a vendor-developed multi-coil design that enables them to sense all metals—both ferrous and non-ferrous—at the same distance. This provides advantages over standard sensors because Factor 1 sensors never have to be derated for non-ferrous targets, the vendor says. The sensors are inherently weld field-immune to 100kA/m, so are unaffected by high levels of magnetic interference from transformers, motors, drives or welders. Many Factor 1 models are available with Teflon coating on the housing and end cap to help protect the sensor from weld slag and weld flash. Additionally, the sensors are available with SlagMaster coating applied to the face of the sensor, which the vendor says is a major advance over Teflon coated sensors.
