Asset Management via Cloud Computing

March 2, 2011
The new AirVantage Smart Automation extension, part of the company's cloud platform for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, provides connections to industrial equipment and embeds business logic without additional programming.
The upside to this cloud service is equipment manufacturers and service providers can rapidly create and deploy new services for their particular manufacturing environment. The company cites these business advantages for use with their cloud services: tiered monitoring and maintenance; demand response applications; and time- or location-based equipment usage pricing models. The other big advantage with this cloud platform is the removal of programming at the machine level, moving the embedded communications to the client and server. Another feature with this cloud platform is remote application updates via the AirVantage Ready Agent logic. The company touts a broad range applications for this platform: oil and gas, water treatment and green power generation. Sierra Wirelesswww.sierrawireless.com.
