I/O-SYSTEM Celebrates 15 Years Content

The WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM is celebrating 15 years of fieldbus-independence, modularity and scalable performance.

Debuting at the 1995 Hannover Fair, the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM streamlined traditional networking via two-conductor lines for distributed inputs and outputs. This yielded I/O controllers housing the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM's greatest attribute: fieldbus-independence.

Unheard of in 1995, the open WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM took fieldbus-independence from concept to industrial standard by providing the flexibility to select the best components while offering backward compatibility with existing components. The support of 16+ international protocols tailors applications to specific regions/preferences while maintaining the efficiencies of unified system. To fulfill varying requirements, the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM was developed around the granular, "slice I/O" concept (1…8-channels) - freeing users to purchase only what's needed.

The WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM contains nearly 400 analog, digital and specialty modules, IPCs and additional platforms including the cabinet-free IP67 SPEEDWAY-I/O-SYSTEM. WAGO has also developed software suites - many free of charge - enabling the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM to enhance other PLC systems and support highly specialized functions. These include the Solar Tracking Function Block, to control photovoltaic solar panel tracking, and WAGO Add-On Instructions for Allen-Bradley® RS-Logix™ 5000. This allows Allen-Bradley® users to easily implement control logic for additional functionality via WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM modules.

As a bedrock technology, WAGO is continuing innovations in automation by adding the new IPCs, high-powered specialty modules and advancing the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM's role in cleaner energy production.
