The FDT Group has released a new live demonstration system that highlights the use of the FDT standard in process and factory automation applications. The new demonstration system simulates a brewing and bottling application using control systems and components commonly found in a brewery. More than 20 companies' products are showcased in this interoperability exhibit, which features beer pumping between tanks and beer bottles being filled on a rotary conveyor.

FDT standardizes the communication and configuration interface between field devices and host systems, and provides a common environment for accessing the devices’ most sophisticated features. "Over the last few years, the FDT standard has been greatly enhanced to support the unique requirements of factory automation applications. The FDT standard also provides rich support and interoperability for all major factory automation networks. We are pleased to interactively demonstrate these capabilities along with our widely deployed process automation features in an integrated system," notes Schneider Electric's Manfred Brill, chairperson of the FDT Group Factory Automation Committee.

The new FDT demo system will be featured in various tradeshows throughout Europe during 2013, including Hannover Fair in the Field Communications Lounge, in many of the Meorga Fairs, at the SPS Drives show, and at the Factory Automation Forum.
