Emerson announced the recipient of its 2022 ASCO™ Engineering Scholarship Program, which recognizes and rewards U.S. college and university students studying in the fields of engineering, instrumentation, systems, and automation, for their academic excellence, service to others, and leadership potential.

The 2022 recipient is Mr. Grant Cignarella of Hopewell Valley, a Master of Science degree candidate in mechanical engineering at Villanova University. He expects to graduate in May 2023. Cignarella will receive a $5,000 scholarship from Emerson. In addition, Emerson will award a $1,000 grant to the engineering department at Villanova.

"Through innovation, we deliver the promise of a brighter future for all. We must nurture new generations to succeed with their creative ideas, imaginative solutions, and ambitious goals," said Jenny Lenhard, president, Americas and industrial automation for fluid and motion control at Emerson. "Our commitment to continuous innovation and the future includes ongoing and wideranging investments in a program of STEM initiatives, including ASCO Engineering Scholarships, that stretch around the world."

“The collaborative effort to solve real world problems and elevate people’s standard of living with science and technology is what makes engineering a great profession," Cignarella stated. "It is an honor to be selected as an ASCO Engineering Scholar and receive Emerson's assistance to fulfill my passion for engineering as my life-long career," he said.

To date, Emerson has awarded $174,000 in scholarships and grants to 29 outstanding engineering students and their colleges. Over the past 15 years, Emerson has opened its ASCO Engineering Scholarship Program to U.S. citizens and legal U.S. residents. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year in a bachelor's degree program or be enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited U.S. educational institution at the time of application.
