ABB Motion and Sapio Research conducted a global survey and published their findings in the article "Circularity: no time to waste”, which focused on the impact of resource scarcity on industrial businesses in the U.S.
The survey, Control reported, highlights the widespread effects of resource scarcity, including increasing costs, supply chain disruptions and production slowdowns.
Automation engineers would find the data relevant as it emphasizes the need for investment in circularity practices to mitigate these challenges. Despite the lack of a standardized approach and slow adoption of key practices, the majority of businesses support circularity regulations and plan to invest more over the next three years.
The survey identifies obstacles to immediate progress, such as the lack of a consensus definition of circularity and limited adoption of important circular practices like incorporating energy-efficient technologies and promoting circular principles in the supply chain. However, investing in circularity has already shown measurable benefits, including waste reduction and energy efficiency improvements, indicating opportunities for automation engineers to implement innovative solutions in this domain.
