Lantronix, Inc., a global provider of smart networking and communications products for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, collaborated with Freescale Semiconductor to demonstrate a new evaluation board for the Lantronix xPico Wi-Fi OEM module designed specifically for the Freescale Tower System. The companies provided live product demonstrations on October 24, 2013 at the “Designing with Freescale Seminar Series” in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Lantronix has extensive experience integrating Freescale technology and Wi-Fi, according to Daryl Miller, Lantronix vice president of engineering. “This combination, along with Lantronix' expertise, allows developers to rapidly bring to market products for the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine to machine connectivity (M2M).”

Compatible with a range of Freescale embedded microprocessors and controllers, the xPico Wi-Fi tower module provides design engineers a modular development platform that simplifies the task of adding Wi-Fi to their products. Highlights include:

  • Mobile-ready with SoftAP and Simultaneous Client
  • Sample source code
  • Lantronix' Zero-Host Load
  • Low power requirements
  • IEEE 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz)
  • Complete device server application with full IP stack and Web server
  • Plug-in compatible with the Freescale Tower System

The Freescale Tower System, a development platform featuring interchangeable and reusable modules and open source design files, is designed to make it easy to customize designs. With the Lantronix xPico Wi-Fi module, it “will enable the global base of engineers focused on Freescale silicon to quickly adopt and prototype new designs that include intelligent Wi-Fi connectivity at significantly reduced development costs,” said Todd Salter, Latin America Area Sales Manager for Freescale.

The “Designing with Freescale Seminar Series” are global events providing tailored live training to embedded engineers on a broad range of Freescale solutions. The events, numbering more than 250 across the globe annually, attract tens of thousands of design engineers working with Freescale and Freescale partner solutions, according to Salter.

In addition to providing the xPico Wi-Fi enabled Tower Module, Lantronix is a new member of the Freescale Connect Partner Program.

The module is available for purchase directly from Lantronix, from Freescale, and through the company’s worldwide network of distributors and reseller partners for US $69.00 MSRP. Lantronix is accepting pre-orders
